  1. Support for vertex colors in obj files

SD does not support vertex colors in obj files. This is not standard, but a common way to support this is described on this wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wavefront.objfile

Implementation details are quite simple: "Some applications support vertex colors, by putting red, green and blue values after x y and z. The color values range from 0 to 1."
Please note this method is supported by ZBrush for polypaint.

Would it be possible to implement this? Knowing FBX is limited in size, SD doesn't support PLY, OBJ might be the last option to enable very high poly meshes bakes in…

  2. PLY support

Please add support for PLY mesh format so we can use high polys for bakes which have more than 65 million polygons (restriction of FBX).

  3. Image catalog to easily compare before and after changes.

It would be great to have a way to save out a snapshot from the 2d or 3d view so you can compare before and after making a few changes to the graph. Functionality could be similar to Pixar's "it" image viewer, or Houdini's MPlay, but would be a pane inside of Designer.

  4. Create an RGB image without a mask being automatically being added.

Create an RGB image without the mask being automatically added as an alpha channel.

As we have a workflow in the studio where we use PSD export and we need the layered PSD file not to have layer masks.

  5. UI rescaling is an absolute pain, undocked panels 1 pixel border selection

I'm using a multi-monitor set up and I am constantly hassled by trying to resize my windows. Sometimes I want to re-orient them in a particular way because I'm looking at reference. Sometimes I want them larger or smaller. Being able to drag and resize a window is extremely important.

The problem I am facing (and I always have been having) is that the floating windows in the UI are nearly impossible to resize. It seems like its literally -1- pixel border selection. This is very hard to work with. A good working example is in your internet browser window,…

  6. impact/collision map baking

If you bake the height map from a collision box on the low mesh, you can isolate the impact areas of an object. you can combine the curve map and this impact map for micro wear.

But we need a tool to generate a collision box (like unreal engine)

  7. Append/Override specific settings in Project Files stack

Substance Designer currently has the ability to load in multiple project configurations and apply them via an ordered stack. By default, there are two config files called Default Project and User Project. You can also create project configuration files yourself and add them to this stack.

However, let's say you want to create two additional project configs. One for use studio-wide and another for a specific 3d engine/project. While you can add them to the project configuration stack, the last one in the stack will overwrite settings from all others that came before.

What I would like to see is…

  8. Text Node: line break/paragraph after Exposing Text

    Hello,

I've been using the newly introduced Text Node in a Material for an easy to customize Book Texture, with different Titles etc.

However I noticed that, after Exposing the Text Parameter from the Node, the String value doesn't support line breaks.
So it always only one line of text per node if exposed.

I think it would be a huge improvement if it was possible to inject paragraphs into the exposed Text params for formatting etc.

  9. Quick shift preview for previous computed/cached renders

The aim of this option is to eliminate the need to re-render the whole material when you just want to compare two settings and going back and forth.

It would work like a clipboard for the material previewer
Everytime you "record/save" a computed material you could put all the textures that goes with it into a first entry.

Then you would capture/save a second set of baked textures that have been changed after some tweakings.

And then, quickly visualise the two materials in the texture & 3D view by just alternating the two sets of textures instead of waiting for…

  10. Radial menu for most used nodes

The space key drop-down menu, of course, is good, but why not create a quick selection menu in which you can put any node, for example, levels. It is inconvenient for me every time to enter this word in a search engine or to get into a small icon on a tool shelf.
