  1. Support for next generation image formats

    It is time to integrate some new formats that are getting more and more popular across many ranges of platforms and are also easier for handling and transporting HDR content.

    I would like to see support for JPEG XL, AVIF and HEIF/HEIC

    There should at least be some import features for AVIF & HEIF
    I personally root for JPEG XL which I think will finally become the new standard because its packed with a lot of advantages over everything else and does not need a lot more power to compute.

  2. Can we fix the Material system in substance Designer?

    the material system seems a little broken in substance, especially when switching between nested reference graphs, as the material in the 3D view constantly wants to update to show whichever network im looking at, but I'm usually looking at sub-graphs that have blank textures, and the cached full substance shader gets lost and has to be reevaluated when I go back to the main graph. The material settings also get reset, meaning I have to go back to the scale of the displacement in the settings and set them back to the values they were set to.

  3. cntl+drag makes material multi connection

    those 1, 2, 3 are kind of clunky to use, with a pen at least. I would so much prefer to use Ctrl for makeing material multi connection.

    As of option 3 it never worked for me anyway

  4. Drag and drop onto connections

    Right now if you select a connection, and then click one of the simple nodes in the quick bar, it splits the connection and adds the node into it, which is super useful! However, this doesn't seem to work for more complicated nodes pulled from the Library, and, additionally, when you drag a node (whether a basic one from the quick bar or the library), it highlights the connection as if it were going to do exactly what I would want and expect, but upon dropping the node it simply drops it on top of the connection without splitting it.…

  5. Import/link and export Image Sequence

    It would be great to have the option to load image (udim) sequence into Substance Designer and be able to export a bitmap sequence from one Output node.

    For those who sometimes like to use Substance Designer as an image editor rather than just a material maker.

    I would happily give up on nuke or other compositing programs If I could apply all the fantastic functions in Substance Designer onto my texture image sequence at once.

  6. Texture export does not detect write protected files

    When texture files are locked by a versioning software like Perforce they cannot be overwritten. But even so Substance Designer reports "Export done" as if they were successfully overwritten. Would be better with a proper warning that the files were locked.

  7. Format XML for better VCS/Git use

    Substance designer stores its SBS files in an XML format. But it's all one long unbroken line. If you store the SBS files in version control (e.g. Git) it makes diffs pretty useless. But if it just had some line breaks/indentation (pretty printing on XML export) it would be much easier to see what had been changed.

  8. Toggle through / cycle / solo channels in 3d viewer

    It would be great to have shortcuts in 3d viewer to toggle between different channels (like in Substance Painter), baseColor, metalness, roughness etc. to see what every channel is doing without any lighting / reflection etc., just flat color information.

  10. tiling in two directions independently in materials/edit

    so we could test non square textures on default cube object without necessity to load custom geometry every time

  11. liquefaction/deformation path

    Can you set the liquefaction/deformation path for the liquefaction/deformation texture? These paths can easily handle some complex effects. Now it is too troublesome to do liquefaction/deformation. A lot of deformation nodes are set, which wastes a lot of time.

  12. A large number of random curves with freely set radians cannot be generated

    A large number of random curves with freely set radians cannot be generated, and all nodes can only generate straight lines or chaotic lines. Without a large number of randomly curved curves, it is difficult to simulate the effect of the real world

  13. Support for Matrix3*3, 4*4, quaterion.

    Pixel processor allows user to make filters with rendering technique. However Substance does not support matrix 33 and 44 at substance graph area. (Not MDL).

  14. 3D View in SD: Backface Cull Toggle

    Backface Cull Switch in Substance Designer. Without having to go in and manually modify the glsfx/glsl files, can you please add a switch in designer to enable/disable backface culling? This is especially needed for alpha planes.

  15. Allow multiple instances of substance designer running at the same time

    It would be great to be able to run multiple instances of Designer at (bonus: being able to copy / paste nodes between them)

    e.g. I have a texture export running that takes 30 mins (many UDIMs) and at the same time I could open a second instance to continue to work

  16. Repeat Last Command as a keyboard shortcut

    Not sure if this is grouped under launcher.

    Say I want to "align selected nodes vertically". Can I select then push say G or something to repeat the same previous function without having to click the button again

  17. Substance Graph as input to Splatter

    In addition to choosing a Pattern in Shape Splatter, it would be amazing if you could choose a substance graph to Splatter.
    Exposed parameters on the substance graph could generate a Map pin on the splatter node, and 3 sliders: Amount, Random and Map multiplier.

    This would be an incredible way to get far more randomness out of splatter

  18. Highlight the node that contains the exposed parameter selected

    When working with a complex graph, with many parameters exposed, it would be helpful to be able to track the corresponding node of each parameter by highlighting it when the parameter is selected from the list (clicking on te drop down button of the parameter). It would make it easier to go back and alter the corresponding function if it doesn't work as desired

  19. cryptomatte to masks

    Would be nice if SD courd read cryptomatte exrs and produce accurate masks from it.

  20. Colour coded node connection lines

    It would be useful for scene organisation and readability if node connection lines could be assigned different colours. In complex graphs the number of connection lines can be considerable, and as it's now impossible to click on an output and highlight its path to the end (if dot nodes have been used) this can make following a line to its conclusion quite time consuming.
